But if the LSAT doesn't come out as high as you hoped, seriously consider taking a year off (if that's possible). You have a great GPA, and all you need is the LSAT to match and you'd be a good candidate for HYS. Fortunately for you, the LSAT is the one thing you can still adjust, so if you don't get above a 170, I would study up more, take the June test, and enjoying an extra year of income before the student loans.

Your transfer plan is terrible, don't try it. You should hopefully get some money at Cornell at the very least. I would be sure to max out all attempts if your retake doesn't work out. Lets get you into Harvard, ya?

This. There is a TLS user who retook twice to get a score they were happy with, and their first take is pretty close to yours. That user just got into Harvard.

So what's the beef? Its much harder to get into HLS as a transfer? SLS? If thats my goal, then I should work and save money for a year? What if my top choice is Columbia.

Right now, you control your own destiny. The LSAT is a beatable test. Once you begin law school, you don't get any retakes and you're competing on a strict curve. It is much much much easier to do well on the LSAT than it is to get good enough grades to transfer into Stanford/Harvard/Columbia*.


*ETA: Also, if your first choice is Columbia, a 173+ should net you some serious $$$. Much harder (read: impossible) to get that as a transfer.

YES.

TCR says that going to a school with the sole purpose to transfer is a terrible idea. You may think that you can snag the top 5% (you may be right). However, most -if not all- people think the same going into law school. Max out your retakes. Why go to a school where you will make less money with less job prospects upon graduation when you can save money with a year off, have unbeatable job prospects, and the starting point to your career that you desire. It just all comes down to basic common sense, really. You can absolutely do better on the LSAT and every point will means tens of thousands of dollars at this point.

While I agree with everything that has been said here and retake is undoubtedly TCR, I would add that it is probably worth it to throw an app Berkeley's way regardless of how your Dec test went. They put far less emphasis on LSAT than a lot of their peer schools and a great deal more on GPA. All that being said, even just a few points more on the LSAT will open up most of the T14 and with money to boot so if Dec isn't a huge improvement and/or you really want Columbia, take some time off and try again next year.

To be a near lock for CCN you'll need a 171. You have a solid shot at HYS with a 172+.

Somewhat of a disadvantage and while there are no guarantees, you should get H with a score around 173.
