NYU: Admissions Timetable

Hi all,
It's clear that NYU sends out its first wave of admissions decisions in mid-December and its second wave in early to mid-January. I have a couple of questions related to this.
1.) Is there any benefit to being considered in the December wave rather than the January wave?
2.) When is the (approximate) submission deadline to be considered in the December wave? Has it already passed? I imagine the "deadline" is swiftly approaching if it isn't already behind us.
Thanks guys!
