In the spring of 2012, I got stopped for speeding in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While ultimately I was charged with a civil traffic violation, the initial citation was for a reckless driving misdemeanor, because I was going more than 15 mph over the speed limit. When the charge was brought to court it was reduced because it was my first offense, I completed a safe driving course, and I had record of service in the community.
