Why X essay and ED

Post by ArundelSt » Mon Nov 18, 2013 2:31 pm

This question may have been answered in previous threads, but I couldn't find much of a consensus. It seems some people say there is no reason to write a Why X essay if you are applying to a school since your interest is obvious due to the binding ED. I was considering writing one anyway, it doesn't seem like it could possibly hurt and if anything there is at least some chance it may help if only a small amount. Does anyone have an opinion on this, especially as it pertains to UVA

If you have an hour or two to burn writing a Why UVA statement, go for it. It will make zero difference on your ED.

I wrote a Why X with my ED. It doesn't take that long to do, and it certainly can't hurt, so why not? If you're EDing then presumably the school is your top choice, and for me personally I'm doing anything and everything to get into my top choice.
