Hi,

I am getting a LOR from the Assistant Dean at my graduate school. I worked for her on several on campus programs and also founded an organization under her. Point is, she knows me extremely well and I wanted a LOR from her.

My question is, do I need to get one from a professor as well? Or will this LOR suffice for an "academic LOR."

The general wisdom is that to the extent that anyone cares about LORs, they want exactly two academic references. LORs absolutely matter at Y. S and to a lesser extent H also probably care about them and likewise will want academic references. Other schools also prefer academic LORs, but LORs in general matter less outside YHS. So if you're shooting for YHS then get two academic references. Otherwise, you can potentially get away without two academic letters, but unless there's a compelling reason why you can't get academic LORs, it's a safer bet to have them. It doesn't sound to me like the dean has a first-hand knowledge of your academic and writing abilities. But depending on what the projects and organization are, maybe. We can't really give you advice without more specifics on what academic attributes of yours she can attest to.
