Why X statements
Has anyone ever thought about the prospect that especially convincing Why X statements could yield less scholarship money? What I mean is, if you really wanted to go to a particulal school, could that school have less incentive to try to convince you to do so with some $$$?

Well you have to get into the school first.

Yes, but many people could get into a school without a Why X statement.t14splitter wrote:Well you have to get into the school first.

Just remember that an admission based on a particularly rousing why X is not a de facto ED. They MAY give you less money initially, but that doesn't mean you can't squeeze more out of them in negotiations.
That being said, I'd love to see the why X essay that has this level of impact. It's pretty far fetched.

Definitely. I was just surprised I'd never seen this discussed before.matthewsean85 wrote:Just remember that an admission based on a particularly rousing why X is not a de facto ED. They MAY give you less money initially, but that doesn't mean you can't squeeze more out of them in negotiations.

SWEEEEEEEEEET. I was worried that I was going to have to write 10 Why X essays. Now I have a legitimate reason to not write them...since my writing ability is so good, I run the risk of blowing them all away that they won't give me any scholarship money. So it's probably better that I don't do them.

I think that schools would want to give money to people who actually want to go there. They only have a limited number of big scholarships to give out and if they give them to people who don't matriculate, then they're stuck trying to give out big schollys way after most people chose a school and they're stuck trying to get leftovers to go to their schools.
ED doesn't apply because you're legally binded and can't go anywhere else.
