I know there's a really nice, pretty googledoc graph with the Biglaw and Article 3 clerkships. I've seen it posted, but I looked at it on my phone and didn't bookmark it. Could someone link me pweez?

Hey Regulus, how come there's no data for any of the Cooleys?

I didn't know Penn placed more students into BigLaw than NYU, Yale, Stanford, UChicago and Harvard.

Yeah. Self selection from the T-6. Students from those schools tend to want to do something else.

Is there any data or anecdotal evidence to help compensate for selection bias? I feel like the placement data of the graduating class of the better schools tells you more about what law school students want than what the school can do for you.

For example, NYU's clerkships of the graduating class was practically cut in half from 2011-2012. Is NYU losing its luster in this aspect, or is it just that the graduates wanted to do something else.

To what extent are these numbers a reflection of the preferences of employers vs. the preferences of the student body? Is it that NYU grads have a harder time with appellate clerkships than the rest of the T6, and would rather go into government than district clerkships?

Obviously students at places like Yale are going to opt into PI and other fields that won't be shown on the BigLaw + FedClerk graph. Unfortunately, these graphs are simply 100% actual placement outcomes and not theoretical placement ability; there is really no way to tell what % of students at any given school got the job they wanted instead of just a job that they were willing to do.
This. And it's true of schools outside the T6. Look at Georgetown. The employment stats significantly underrepresent the school's placement abilities because so many grads self-select away from BigLaw and toward BigGovt

I believe there are numbers floating around for CLS/NYU/UPenn that indicate very similar offer rates for those that participated in OCI (85%+)

but schools don't publish these numbers so who really knows (they really should be forced to)

One way is to look at data from the boom years to get a sense of school culture

This really helps put some perspective behind UVA/Mich/GTown/Berkeley numbers

Doesn't help NYUs case as being a PI leaning safe haven in the T14 though this does (http://www.law.com/pdf/nlj/20080414empl ... trends.pdf)

I'm gonna bump this because it's a great resource for people as acceptances/decisions start coming in.

The class of 2011 employment data is actually for the class of 2010 by the looks of it.
