Should I join the honors college?

Currently have a 3.82 gpa and was thinking about joining honors college to help my chances at the t14. Would honors classes be considered a small soft or significant or some where in between. Would it look better to have a 3.86 with honors courses than a 3.91 without?

I don't think so. But I'll defer to the peeps who had the higher end GPAs when applying... they'll probably know best. You'll be in a good spot either way.

I doubt honors classes are going to be much harder. If you really need a resume line, might as well.

It probably won't help in and of itself, but my honors college gave me access to a lot of very small seminars where I got to know the professors really well, so it could help with LORs if you don't already have those locked down. I think they helped my GPA, too, because the professors were way more into subjective stuff like discussions and the occasional paper (usually graded generously) than the typical multiple choice exam for 200+ person classes.
It really just depends on how your school operates.

There's zero chance I would change my honors classes for regular classes since, as sabanist said, they were far more intellectually stimulating, and I got to develop relationships with my professors. Why anyone would choose something like this based on worrying about law school admissions is ridiculous to me.

My undergrad had an honors college and I joined because the program had small class sizes and was more liberal arts focused. In hindsight, the advantage I took away was that it required me to write a thesis with a full defense like many masters programs and that opportunity allowed me to develop strong relationships with the professors who were my thesis advisers and panelists thus giving them more material for my letters of rec.
