The third LOR is unlikely to affect your prospects if the two professors knew you well enough to write good letters. If you think your boss would be upset that you are applying to LS, then it's probably not worth asking for that letter. And if he's going to be upset, he might not be such a good letter writer anyway.

To the extent that law schools care about LORs at all, they want to see evaluations from people who have evaluated your academic work. Don't worry about the employer LOR if you think there are risks associated with asking for it.

IMO, ask yourself what your employer could share with the admissions committee that your professor could not. If your employer has very compelling things to share about you, then I would risk it.

For example, tn my case, I had implemented and designed a new staffing model at my office that was picked up on a national level. There was no way I was not going to have that experience documented in my application so I needed my employer to brag on my behalf and put my work experience into a context. If your employer is just going to write, "so and so is reliable and a hard worker," its not worth it.

Lots of people got into HYS with only two academic LORs - if you see a possible negative, I wouldn't do it
