Hey, so I have a question regarding the resume I am preparing to send out with my applications in a few months.

I am involved in a social fraternity as an undergraduate. I have held two elected executive positions within the fraternity, and as a result had some relatively large responsibilities (for example, coordinated a $20,000 budget for a formal weekend). Normally I wouldn't think twice about including this in my resume because I feel they are notable experiences.

Recently, however, I have been hearing that people are reluctant to include social fraternities on their resumes at all. Are these reservations warranted? I haven't spoken to anyone who knows the admissions process well, so I figured I'd bring the topic here to make sure I'm not overlooking a serious risk.

Put it on if you value it. It's good experience, but you're in the same boat as a good majority of other applicants. Not putting it on there wont make you stand out.

If it worked for Mary Advocate AND Elle Woods, I say keep it!

But realistically no one is going to hold any bias or judge you for being a part of a social organization. If anything, it shows you probably aren't the super awkward law student type (meaning you are employable) and that's a good thing

Yea. If you're writing your personal statement about public service because of that one charity ball you threw with your sister sorority, then it's bad. If you have legit experience with the frat, it's good experience.
