Certifications and admissions?

My undergrad is going to be in accounting (fall 2013), and I'm planning to go into tax law. I can't take the CPA exam until I have another year of school (hours requirement). So, I'm looking at taking the enrolled agent exam, which is a tax certification that tax gives practice rights that are identical to a CPA.

This is partly business related (I can charge a lot more money to do people's taxes as an EA), but also because I would like to to do volunteer work with low-income taxpayers, and so that I can show prospective employers during/after law school that I actually know something about taxes.

What I'm wondering is whether this will have any affect on admissions? I would guess that CPA certification probably would, but does anyone have any experience with this?

No boost for admissions, but maybe a boost at OCI with firms hiring for their tax practice.
