Top Law Schools

I was able to e-mail UCLA and request a fee waiver for the 2013/2014 cycle this last week which got me thinking - how many other schools will just hand out a fee waiver if asked? Has anyone had luck doing this?

It's worth trying to ask at every school except HYS

Absolutely. There's nothing to lose by soliciting fee waivers; just don't be disheartened if a school doesn't grant you one. A granting or non-granting of a fee waiver isn't necessarily indicative of your admissions chances at a given school (unless maybe you give the school your LSAT/GPA, and the school replies with "LOL no").

I think most schools are pretty cool about it if you're at their medians.

I received fee waivers for 16 out of the 20 places I applied to. That's all the way from UMKC to UVA. If they want you, they'll give you a fee waiver so you'll apply. If they don't want you, they'll give you a fee waiver to increase their selectivity numbers. You really can't lose here.

For those of you that have been successful, what do you usually include in your (what I am assuming to be) email?

Also, are schools more likely to grant waivers at certain times? Early vs. Late, Fall vs. Spring enrollment, etc.
