What about Roman numerals at the end? That okay?CanIGetAnAmen wrote:Yeah I heard this too. But for you Yale you had to have the same first and last name of the said person with Jr. at the end.KD35 wrote:Flame??
But seriously, I heard if you didn't have a relative in the first inaugural HLS class, no chance at Harvard. Yale is pretty similar.

Can't one simply as a question and get a straight answer?
In a recent scandal at some school, there was this dean who released emails inadvertantly showing that legacies DO get preferential treatment in law school. This was a shock, because previously it was thought it was purely a #'s based admissions process. That said, these connections matter when you're outside the taget numbers for the school. If you look at law school numbers or any of its copycat websites, you'll see that even for the T6, LSAT/GPA is HIGHLY predictive of admissions suggesting that you do not need connections to get into those schools. This is true of the entire T14 as well. Whether there are a few rogue connection-utilizing applicants beating their numbers is a different question, and the answer is likely yes, but don't worry about them. Good luck in your admissions cycle, and if you have any more questions, please feel free to PM me.

just look at jbagelboy.
His family has roots in Harvard, he himself went to HUG, and what happened? He got dinged at HLS.
WHAT MATTERS THEN?
GPA/LSAT/ URM STATUS
I click on this absurd topic for lulz and see myself being used (inaccurately) as anecdotal evidence.
FWIW Harvard doesn't have anywhere on their application where you can mention legacy, so they never would have known it. Also I didn't go to Harvard for undergrad. My parents did go there, but not for law school; they are not attorneys. They did not reach out to anyone crimson on my behalf, either. Effectually, unless they traced my last name, no one would know I had any prior connection to Harvard.
So I don't think I'm a particularly good case study for this phenomenon. I think if your parents did go to the same law school and kept in touch with profs/adcoms, it could give you a boost. Someone I knew in college got into Yale Law, not in small part because his dad went to YLS and was on the board of admissions at YLS. Conflict of interest much?
overall this is a retarded topic tho. Classic necessary/sufficient condition flaw. Of course you don't need connections to get in to any law school. Probably couldn't hurt, though.
