law_School_hopeful wrote:I want to apply to law school this fall. I am worried that my criminal record will prevent me from being able to do this. My criminal record consists of 3 underage drinking tickets, with one unlawful gathering to go along with those tickets, because people were drinking at my apartment. I also got a traffic ticket for overtaking on double yellow lines. I have a 3.65, and will be taking the lsat in October (I got a 165 on the practice LSAT). Will my criminal record mean that law school is out of the picture for me?

You will probably be fine. I PMed you.

One thing to note - law schools are concerned about drinking problems. Having several citations for drinking issues might raise a red flag (MIGHT). If you haven't already as part of the process, I would sign up for some alcohol abuse classes (even if you don't think you have a problem) so when you write an explanatory essay, you can point to something proactive you're doing to ensure it won't happen again. A bad essay for underage drinking tickets is, "I'm now of legal age, so I won't be cited for drinking while under age again."

Get above the 75th percentile LSAT score at the school you are interested in.

Highly doubt it will be a big deal, but the fact that it's a repeat offense may be a small red flag. You can use your C&F statement as a positive, though, if you can sincerely talk about how you have grown from it.

This is a nagging question for me. It has been more than 10 years since I've had any convictions, arrests, or infractions more serious than a moving violation. I was a complete hooligan (misdemeanor status not felony status) as a youth and I am afraid I will accidentally leave out an arrest when applying, that almost kept me out of Canada before.

adcoms won't care. Provided, you are above both the schools medians or even better—above the 75th percentile.

They will care if he leaves one out.

isn't there a database with your record somewhere?
