Advice
I made a C in a general education English class my first semester in college. It is pulling down my GPA. I have thought about retaking git but in order to do that I will have to be approved to take 9 hours in a single summer school session instead of the maximum 7. Is it worth it? Or should I just focus on my major classes? It is more important to have supper good grades in major classes or a higher GPA?

Re: Advice
In addition, you make a distinction between regular classes and 'major' classes. This distinction does not matter, they will not care about your 'major' GPA, just keep your GPA high across the board.
Edit: Came back and wanted to add, I also had a C in my undergraduate transcript. Can't say that it hurt my applications.
Forget about the mistakes you've made, and put your head down and crush the rest of undergrad dude. Don't let that one thing affect you. And if you show upward grade trend, it counts for you.
Edit 2: took out some outing information
