Just sharing a new program i received info on with the rest of TLS. Hope this isn't a repost.

Hi TLS,

I would like to invite you to participate in a program unique to Coastal Law that will assure you first-year academic success, opportunities to acquire substantive practical legal work experience, and that you will pass the bar exam the first time. This program is called the Coastal Law Assured Outcomes Partnership.

Our Assured Outcomes Partnership is completely voluntary and available to all students at no extra cost. It is also a true partnership and I stress that, if you are accountable for your part, we will be accountable for ours.

Below is more specific information regarding the assurances we are prepared to make to students who adhere to the Partnership terms:

If you do not pass the exam on the first attempt, you will receive supplemental prep courses at no cost, plus a living expense while preparing for the next bar exam administration.

If you do not pass after your second attempt, you will receive $10,000 from the school.

If you are academically dismissed, you will receive $10,000 from Florida Coastal School of Law, which we recommend be used to defray any student loans incurred.

We are still accepting applications for our fall 2013 class through http://www.lsac.org. For more information regarding this opportunity and to download the terms and conditions visit the Assured Outcomes Partnership website or contact my office at 904-680-7710.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Nicole

Just desperate for bodies. Their entering class size in 2010 was 800 students, and that dropped to 670 in 2011. Don't have the 2012 numbers in front of me, but it's probably lower, and now...who knows, but hopefully it doesn't look good for them. Meanwhile, 75% of their students score below average on the LSAT, which may help explain their shitty bar exam performance, and why they should generally be considered un-hirable by firms, governments, and people who just need their Schedule C filled out properly.

The only outcome I would want assured from fcsl is a full time long term jd required job following graduation. "Just pass the bar" is shitboomer advice and completely out of touch with the realities of the dangers of shelling out money for a legal education today.

Let me know when fcsl starts cutting 10k checks to students who can't get a job

Got this advice from a local business person who told me that moving to go a T6 wasn't worth it because as long as I pass the bar, attending the local TTT would be fine.

The best part about my cycle being basically over was turning off the referral service and no longer receiving stupid emails like the one above. I wonder how professors even justify teaching at those schools.

Yep, entering class in 2012 was 580. The only assured outcome from Coastal is unemployment.

500 students paying sticker at $130K = $65M. If they all failed (no bar, thrown out, etc.) Fla C would have to fork over $10M, only leaving them $55M to pay off staff, operations, etc. Somehow someway I believe Fla C still makes $$ on the deal.

I'm also concerned about the $10,000 for being academically dismissed.
That's just screams we're trying to get your money, because 10,000 is not even close to getting people to pay back their loans.

Does this program do anything at all about jobs? Passing the bar doesn't do much good if you are unemployed.

2Ls and 3Ls:

You will receive access to BARBRI’s Upper Level Program free of charge, which includes:
•Subject outlines
•Video lectures
•Practice multiple choice questions
•Access to BARBRI’s comprehensive MPRE Review Course, which includes a four-hour lecture, an outline, and hundreds of multiple choice questions.
Is this the full Barbri program - for free? Am I missing something in the fine print here?

No, I don't think that you're missing anything; I believe that it is true that they will pay for the program for free. However, based on this, it is actually not as big of a benefit as most people think. That is to say, after graduating, your future employer will usually cover the cost of bar prep as well as living expenses, so what this school is almost admitting to with this program is that their graduates will not have jobs because the school has to step in and do what employers usually cover. Passing the bar is great and all, but if you don't have a job lined up by that point in time, you are probably not in a good spot. :(
While I agree with your analysis, wouldn’t it be great if all schools offered this benefit? No matter the school, if you are a 3L somewhere stuck in a bad place, this (a Barbri with a satisfactory living stipend) could certainly be a welcomed lifesaver.
