175 LSAT, 3.93, NO SOFTS WDID?

As title states, I'm at a loss. I'm applying during the 13'-14' season and have the aforementioned numbers at a fairly good undergrad but I have NO softs. I pretty much slept and went to class in college. Is Harvard still possible/likely? What should I do to maximize my chances of getting in?

Yes HLS is a possibility. A decent one prolly too.

Relax and keep your GPA up if you finish this may. Perhaps visit HLS if that's your dream and take a tour or something. Stay motivated.

The thing with softs for you is that 1) they don't matter that much unless they're great and 2) you don't have time to do anything great.

Relax. GL next cycle.

Dunno why you only want to get into HLS...

But, you're solid. You should almost definitely get an interview, but given your lack of softs the JS1 will be how they will get to know you. So just make sure your PS and resume can feed into whatever you are going to want to say about yourself during your interview. Look into the HLS applicants thread from this year (or anywhere else it might be) for the basic interview questions/topics so you can see what they're going to ask you about. A lot of JS' interview focuses around softs I think (I had KB, so I'm not sure), so it would be a slightly different field. Also, make sure to apply SUPER early in the cycle given your lack of softs.

TL;DR: (1) Prep for the interview (2) Apply on day 1

apply early for a decent chance at hls, though they will grill you on softs during your js1.

you will get into nyu and columbia

you better work on some softs if you want to get into chicago/yls/sls.

i disagree with the above post - hammy/ruby require softs, but you may get a butler.

Put together a compelling application that tells a unified story and does not highlight any negatives in your app.

Also, be prepared to defend your major and undergrad institution if they're "easy."

Why don't you work a few years before applying?

"softs don't matter" does not mean "WE before applying is useless"
ETA: just so we're clear - I've moved on from the admissions point since that's already been answered

Softs probably do matter a lot more at HYS. But the kind of softs that matter aren't ones OP will be able to get easily.

Possible but not a given. Be ready to kill the interview. Apply widely and early.

And HLS does worry about softs, just not as much as YS. See TripTrip and others with outstanding numbers who are held/WL/dinged for various reasons. Nothing's a sure thing when you get to HYS.

TripTrip has "remarkable" softs though.

This is his first post on this forum, "I also have a military soft and a few years full-time work experience (while going to school full-time). Parents didn't finish four year degrees (but two of my grandparents did). The only detriments are that my undergraduate is an unheard-of liberal arts public university and my major is Criminal Justice."

Maybe H enjoys trolling CJ majors. TripTrip still has a shot at H.

YEah HLS doesn't like CJ majors. But that's because CJ major is a joke, more-so than a humanities degree (and I'm in the humanities).

And UCI likes softs and high LSAT/GPA. Because, you know, it's a very rigorous program with excellent job prospects in a state with the best legal market. Watch out T14, UCI is coming!

I wish I could disagree with this, but you're right. The reason I could work full time while going to school full time and still graduate at the top of my class is because my professors have to doll out the extra credit opportunities to make sure the class average is passing. It's kind of ridiculous.

I didn't really do my research for UG majors.

Sounds strong, but def not "remarkable".

It's all good. Your LSAT back you up. So people can't talk shit on you for majoring in CJ.

That's because I haven't posted all my softs online. I'm not an Olympic athlete, but I've got a lot of unique experience.

PM if you're so inclined.
