I think Regulus' distinction is actually important. If JS or KB has serious doubts about your candidacy (well-founded or not...), an "average" or even "slightly above average" interview may not be enough to overcome the presumption of rejection.

This is nice and all but this rejection is pretty unprecedented on LSN. The only other comparable rejections or wait list rejections are flames and people who have something seriously wrong with their profile. (i.e. they really only have a 169 LSAT or a foreign GPA)

With those numbers and sorts you only have to avoid a terrible impression. A horrendous interview, negative recommendation, bad PS, or flame seem likely. With the Columbia wait list it makes it seem that the interview was not the issue.

Side notes: I'm not a bad interviewer nor is my personal statement off-point or controversial. I got into Berkeley within two weeks of applying and Dean Tom said he was impressed with my PS and recommendations.

Not to say that you aren't a good interviewer, but I just wanted to point out that there is a difference between the two.

There definitely is a difference between the two, but there may be a difference between law school interviews and others. I mean, even though I haven't been dinged yet at Harvard, I did get held after a JS1 and was left to wonder if the interview had been that bad. I have interviewed with and been hired by notoriously difficult organizations to get into, so I know that not only am I not a bad interviewer, I'm a pretty good interviewer, and have been told as much. So, you know, maybe a good interview for law school admission is just different from a good interview for other things.

No. I've seen a lot of these claims this year, where people claim really good schools are YPing. YP happens much less than these people think, and schools like Columbia don't YP.

Fast forward a year. I took a named full scholarship at a non T3, got four offers out of five callbacks as a 1L, and just accepted a 1L SA at a V10. Bad interviewer?

I was JS1-->straight rejection after a lousy interview. Also doing a 1L SA.

JS1 --> Hold --> Withdrew --> Also doing a 1L SA.

Life goes on after JS1 failure, clearly.

I'm in a similar position, in that my numbers suggest a very high chance of acceptance at H but I've ended up on the WL. I've also been held by Columbia and shut out by SY, maybe suggesting a weak application apart from numbers. I went into the cycle fearing that I'd become like one of the infamous TLS underperformers, and unfortunately that's happened to some extent.

I thought the interview went ok, but I doubt that I really impressed, and as a K-JD they may have been looking for that.
