Application Deadline extensions

Post by penguinsnot » Thu Feb 28, 2013 6:51 pm

I've gotten three emails today announcing application deadline extensions. They reference some technical problem with LSAC.org. Legitimate excuse or are these schools desperate? If there wasn't some major problem with the LSAC site, this is pretty funny. These were all sent today.
Greetings from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
We received information from the LSAC indicating that applicants may be experiencing difficulty accessing the website used to host our on-line application. Given the timing of this problem, we are extending our application deadline from March 1st to March 5th, which should provide ample time to submit a Hastings application for the fall 2013.
Due to serious problems this week with Law School Admission Council (LSAC) websites, the University of Cincinnati College of Law has extended our Fall 2013 admission application deadline to Friday, March 8, 2013. (Previously our published deadline was March 1.)
We know that you may be considering applying to William & Mary Law School, and we wanted to give you an update, particularly if you are experiencing problems completing and submitting your application via LSAC.org.
Our deadline for applications is March 1, but we will accept applications and consider them timely if they are submitted by March 10, 2013.

This is legit. LSAC was having major problems with its website this week.

They just provided a detailed update with the reasons for their website problems, and they reference working with ~50 law schools to extend application deadlines:

I received the same emails today. I agree with you; it sounds like they're desperately exploiting LSAC's minor website problems.

LSAC asked schools to extend their deadlines.

If isn't the T-20 or so schools extending deadlines, then it doesn't really mean much.

YLS is also extending their deadlines. This defeats OP's speculation.

Yes, Yale is extending their deadline to March 4th. So if you want to try your luck, you still have 3 days to do so.

Like seriously? Not penalizing people who couldn't get into the site which was not their fought and being fair is now being exploitative? This is our feature lawyers?
I hope Yale exploits this further.

I'm a feature lawyer. All the TTT's were undoubtedly going to extend their application deadlines anyway. LSAC's website issues gave them a reason to do it that didn't reek of desperation. TTT's exploit their students. That's what PRgrad was talking about, it's his fought that he didn't make it clearer. Like seriously.

Good ole' former Governor Blagovich of Illinois, who is now in prison, sure didn't seem to learn much about being a law abiding citizen during his time at Pepperdine Law.

Counterpoint: Mike Leach sure learned how to be an awesome college football coach at Pepperdine.

This happens literally every year at a majority of schools. See here for a roundup from last year.
