What does a 180 get you?

Does getting a perfect score on the lsat give you more than 2 points of boost over a 178?
Does getting a 180 make you interesting enough to a law school that they may take more of a risk even if your GPA and softs are lacking or give you more money than they normally would?

If you are asking if you should retake with a 178, the answer is no, unless you like to challenge yourself and see what you are capable of. Sure it looks nice, but you will be above all schools 75%, so it really doesnt matter anymore. Maybe Yale will try to up there 75th to 178, but even then, your still at the 75th. So realistically, besides being a cool soft you could brag about, and knowing you are in a select group, there is no bonus that I could imagine. With that said, if you had a 178, you are already in a select group, so I see no reason to think about a retake.

Not particularly. I get the sense that 177-180 are in the same range, as are 174-176 and 170-173. Anything from 177-180 is higher than 75 %ile of any school, so you can get away with a gpa significantly less than median. But for T6 schools (with the exception of maybe NYU), I don't get the sense that the score would be the saving grace for an app that, without its lsat, is weak in many ways. Of course, the lower the rank of the school, the more redeeming that super high lsat would be.

LSN doesn't provide any evidence that a 180 does better than a 178.

Not asking about retaking. Just curious what adcom's response to a 180 is. If it is disproportionately rewarded over a 178ish score.

It seems like you're asking if there's some sort of special boost for having that perfect score - the answer is no.

That's exactly what I'm asking. Thanks.

At my current job they give tests to all potential hires (before even interviewing anyone, you just come in and get a test). There are 10 problems and HR people only take those who solved 8-9 for further review. They're extremely suspicious about those who get 10 out of 10 as such ppl are generally very awkward.
Following same logic 180 can actually hurt you

I had a similar experience at law school. The recruiter at Weil told us they're actually hesitant to hire straight As. They look for A-/B+ and a personality she wouldn't mind working with throughout a weekend.
but maybe that's cause the straight As go to V5

I heard the same thing from med school recruiters: 4.0 = neurotic + obsessive, 3.8 = very bright + a life.
Of course med school is a bit different. A 4.0 with Organic Chem/Biochem/Calculus/Genetics/Microbiology/Physics is a pretty strong indicator of weirdness. A 4.0 in Sociology or PoliSci is nothing special.

About 20$/hour added to your tutor asking rate.
Retake.

I suppose it could nudge you into the auto-accept zone of the formula, but it's only a marginal bump. If you're that close, there's a 99% chance you're getting in anyway.
