Hamilton fellowship at Columbia Law

Post by the_pakalypse » Thu Dec 27, 2012 6:05 pm

Are international students/Canadians eligible for the Hamilton? I'm having a hard time finding any information about the fellowship, so any other information would appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Edit: Oops this might be in the wrong section..

Yes they are. 3.8+/175+ gives you a good chance.

International students are eligible, but unless you're Canadian and/or US-educated, you're not getting one.

I think a Canadian on TLS got offered one last year, but I don't have a link for that.

I thought that the Hamilton was an HYS deterrent. If so, is there a strong preference for certain GPAs in the 3.8+ range? A flat 3.80, from what I've read on TLS recently, is quite different from a 3.85 or 3.89 for a non-URM applicant to H.

So a 3.80/175 would get a Hamilton but not be a lock for HYS because of their GPA?

You'd be expected to have both an LSAT and a GPA above the 75th percentile. International students don't have a GPA, so they're screwed in that department

So does that mean a foreign applicant who received his UG degree in the US has a fair shot at Hamilton if he has the requisite numbers?

In the past few cycles, I've seen 1-2 applicants who got the Hamilton but none of HYS. I think this cycle, even a 3.80/175 is basically a lock for HLS.

The lowest GPA I remember is 3.80 (3.80/176) and the lowest LSAT I remember is 175 (3.9x/175) for non-URMs and 172 for URMs.

LSN would be the best place to investigate whether CLS prefers high 3.8s.
