The curve is pre-determined.

It's not a curve.

It's equated.

Cancelled scores definitely count towards the curve. There have been tests where you can miss like 14 and still get a 170. That means that test had a shitload of people cancel.

OP, the "curve" is decided before the test begins. They do this because the test is made up of different experimental sections from tests of the past. LSAC then sees how a 170 scorer did on those sections on average, how a 171 scorer did, how a 155 scorer did, and on and on. They then put all the sections together to make a new test and thus have a pre-determined "curve" which states you can miss x questions and get an x score.

there is no curve.

And no, cancelled scores cannot count for equating. PRIOR to the test, LSAC knows with near certainty how many folks will miss each question -- easy, medium and difficult. They then balance out the easy, medium and difficult questions to get the test 'hardness" that they desire PRIOR to its administration.

Got it. Wonder why they don't make every "curve" the same then. Seems like this would be feasible (if the data is valid for a whole RC, LR, or LG it would be equally as valid for individual games, passages and LR questions.
This is a really dumb hypothesis, that isn't true, and more importantly, doesn't give any reason for adopting it.
