Do adcoms look down on "playing lawyer?"

I've submitted my personal statement on the ps thread for feedback and am surprised to hear some comments regarding "playing lawer."

I wrote my ps about becoming the union steward for my store and recieved some comments that adcoms don't like people who play lawyer- those that assert their knowledge of the law without being in law school or having a JD.

Is that accurate? Does being an educated advocate for others cross some line? Must one have a JD to cite the law when an injustice has occurred?

Thanks

Yes. But you can write that essay without coming across as someone who 'played lawyer'.

Probably. It threatens their monopoly. Law schools like to think that you couldn't possibly know anything about the law unless you pay 150k and sacrifice three years of your life. Realistically - there's a reason it's an undergrad degree in every other country.
