Books to read before 1L

I am graduating this December and will have a lot of free time before starting as a 1L in the fall. Any suggestions on some books to read before 1L starts? I am interested in corporate law.
And I mean a lot of time, so anything you think helpful/interesting. Prep books, pleasure, anything. Thanks.

Anything by a famous Russian author (e.g., Crime & Punishment, The Brothers Karamozov, War & Peace) since you emphasized that you have a lot of time available during which to read. And, depending upon your definition of "a lot of time", you may want to tackle them in Russian.

Strong list, brother.
Also: The Death of Ivan Ilyich
Kafka's The Metamorphosis
Antheap
My Mortal Enemy
The Yellow Wallpaper
Some R.L. Stevenson
Some Dickens (mainly for the incredible prose)
Cthulhu
Notes from the Underground
The Blue Hotel
Almost anything by Dostoevsky, and to an extent, Tolstoy.
You should probably be drinking instead.

A Song of Ice and Fire would be a good choice.

Good call. Anna Karenina is one of my favorite books, so I've decided to read War and Peace before law school starts (assuming I get in somewhere good, of course...)

Nothing will prepare you for law school, just read something for fun while you still have time for it. But you won't learn this until after 1L, so you'll probably end up reading something meaningless and wasting your time.

That shouldn't take more than a month, though

You mean the time it takes Martin to write each page?

Pale Fire - Vladimir Nabokov
Sophie's Choice - Wm. Styron
Intimacy - Hanif Kureishi
Stuart: A Life Backwards - Alexander Masters
In Dubious Battle - John Steinbeck
some favorites. they will probably help you for law school, too, in various ways

Realistically, it seems I'm on track to have read the whole series in the time it takes him to write a chapter. Each book in the time it takes him to write a page? Maybe if I didn't have lawl school or any other commitments.
I'd love it if OP read non-stop and let us know the results

Definitely. Not a light read, but if you have any interest in Lincoln or some of the non-military aspects of the Civil War, I highly recommend it. It's particularly interesting from a leadership/teambuilding perspective.

That seems pretty cool. I have always found the way that he selected his cabinet to be very interesting and probably something worth emulating. I'll have to see if I can pick it up somewhere
