Did any other Asians get an email from Tulane telling them that Louisiana is safe for Asians and get a fee waiver?
What does this mean for Asian applicants? (lesser requirements/schollies)

It'd be funnier if they admitted it wasn't safe for certain ethnicities and offered more scholarship monies as a trade-off.

I didn't get the email -- apparently even Louisiana can't handle Mexicans. :'(

This serious and troubling. In my country, was not lawful for man--even strong man with many wife and mistress--to hunt Asian without permit, this poaching. If Tulane poaching Asians, is only right call authorities yes? When I dream as young boy of American freedom, I think USA is country of laws, where need permits to hunt Asians at all time.

You are receiving this letter because we think you would be a great fit with Tulane. In particular, I am writing you because you identified yourself as being of Asian descent on your LSAT registration form. Speaking for myself, I was concerned about moving to Louisiana because of the perceived lack of diversity. Now, in my final year at Tulane, I find myself very happy not only with New Orleans and Louisiana, but with Tulane Law in particular.
Tulane is an excellent school. The students are friendly and always willing to help each other. The professors are engaging and renowned experts in their fields.
As good as the school is, I believe the best part of Tulane is the community which surrounds it. You can easily find online all the reasons why New Orleans is a great place for young professionals. However, what you will not find much of is information on the vibrant Asian community here. Just across the river from campus, there is a large Vietnamese community, which provides all the usual cultural touchstones: restaurants, groceries, churches, festivals, etc.
Because there are seven colleges and universities in the city, we also draw a large pool of very highly-educated Asian students and faculty from around the nation and the world. No matter where you’re coming from, you will be pleasantly surprised by what New Orleans has to offer.
In addition, because the Asian population is smaller than it might be in other cities, we have the opportunity to really get to know Asian professionals. There is a partner at a local firm who is always at our APALSA meetings, and she has invited quite a few of us out to her house and other events around town. Also, because the community is smaller, it is much more integrated with the New Orleans community in general, and is not quite as insular as you might find elsewhere.
On a personal note, being somewhat of an anomaly has helped me stand out from the rest of the crowd. I have personal contacts with many entities which are far above what the typical law students would be exposed to: local, state, and federal government; the New Orleans economic development board (GNO, Inc.); and the Port of New Orleans, to name a few. I will also be the Secretary of the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana (ACCL) this upcoming year. (Not the Asian Student Club, but the actual Chamber of Commerce.)
I urge you to seriously consider joining us at Tulane. Whatever your concerns, I feel you will be pleasantly surprised by what Tulane and New Orleans have to offer. If you have any particular questions about either the Asian student experience or law school in general, please do not hesitate to contact me at
[email protected]. Even if I don’t know the answer, I will be happy to find it for you.
Sincerely,
James Hou
Tulane Law, Class of 2013

Yeah, that's the email I received too. I actually emailed the guy and asked for more detail about whether or not they were going to give boosts/more schollies to Asian applicants but he said he couldn't answer that. He also said over the past few years Tulane has been actively recruiting more Asian students and has increased their Asian student body by 500%. I guess that means instead of one lone Asian, they have five now.
Any idea if they will give any extra benefits to Asian applicants?

Speaking for myself, I was concerned about moving to Louisiana because of the perceived lack of diversity.
ROFL at suggesting Louisiana's lack of diversity being merely "percieved" despite this statement being in the context of an email sent with the specific goal of luring you to the school solely based on your asian ethnicity. Then there's this gem:
being somewhat of an anomaly
This guy seems to seriously be saying:
"Louisiana's safe for Asians! Despite what you've heard we actually have plenty of diversity. The best thing about our great diversity if that you'll be an anomaly who sticks out like a sore thumb everywhere you go."

Did this come from the Asian Students Association? This might just be from a student group who thought it was a good idea and not actually from the school or the admissions office.

The email I received was from Tulane admissions. Within the email they gave me a fee waiver and also included that email from the Asian student.

Haha, exactly. It's a very diverse community where you'll feel completely at home(provided you're Vietnamese). Also did I mention being Asian is an auto-in and makes you stand out because of the lack of Asians? Gotta stick together!

While Louisiana as a state really is not that diverse (in any meaning of the word), the city of New Orleans is polar opposite.

So how is Tulane going to go about making its school more attractive to potential students?
Relaxed admissions or Partial scholarships? (maybe a bit of both?)

Probably none of this. Don't read too much into this letter and get your hopes up for some sort of boost.
Also, don't go to Tulane under any circumstances, for reasons that have nothing to do with diversity.

This. New Orleans is completely different than the rest of the state. It is a very liberal and very diverse city with lots to offer. Also, there are a ton of vietnamese here. They are a big demographic in the city.
