Temper your enthusiasm in the PS. Acknowledge somehow that you know that not everyone gets to save the world and convince the adcomms that you would also be fulfilled by whatever path your career takes (this is, of course, mostly bullshit).

For an essay like this, the most important thing is having experience that backs up what you're saying. If you talk about women's issues in Africa, and the only experience you have is a fund-raiser night with your sorority, it's going to come across as BS.

You say you don't have Peace Corp/IJM on your resume - do you have anything that backs up what you're saying?

A 50 page thesis and a summer spent at a children's orphanage in Uganda, where there were legitimately former child soldiers there. But the summer thing was a mission trip through a church which is always something I'm hesitant to put anywhere near a resume. Actually, it isn't something I'm going to put on my resume.

The question is can I sound authentic from this experience and while I would love to hear answers to that the truth is probably no one knows until I write it?
I can't say how all admissions committees would react to it, but I would be really turned off by it if this is your only experience. I also don't see how you would pull it off if you don't have the orphanage experience on your resume, but I also don't get why it's not going on your resume. You don't have to put that it was through a religious group.
