How do law schools view percentiles? More specifically, if you just barely meet one but exceed another. Can a high GPA give you a boost for a low LSAT?

I took the October LSAT and I was PT-ing in the 161-165 range. Hypothetically, if I got a 163 that would put me between the 25th and median at Emory, my number one choice (I know its a reach). My GPA is a 3.81, which would put me just above 75th.

Also, for websites that claim to gauge your chances at certain schools, what's the best one? I've used LSAC's and Law School Predictor. LSP seems to be a lot more generous.

General rule of thumb is that if you're below the 25% on either GPA or LSAT, you should be above the 75th in the other in order to have a good chance.

The 25/75 thing is less important than the median. In order to have any chance you need to be above the median gpa or lsat. To have a better chance, above 75th.

Emory's median LSAT is a 165 so you're below that, but you're also above their 3.7 median GPA. For the 25/75, you are above their 75th by a little and in the middle of the 159-166 range (since the median is 165, you are probably around 40% or so). You definitely stand a chance. It's a reach, but not too high (a high reach would be below both medians).

Would you work for a month for $90,000?

If so, you should study and get that LSAT score up. 165 seems to be your magic number for maximum merit aid from Emory. To be safe, you should target at least a few points higher.

There's a major difference between Emory and Emory with $90,000 in merit aid.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll wait and see what happens with the LSAT and maybe retake in the future. I took it abroad and feel really good about it (no zones to ruin my life) so hopefully I surprise myself! October was my second time taking it so I was really hoping to avoid another retake.
