Yes. The results will not be as helpful if the range crosses the median though.

169-171 wouldnt be a good range if you are looking at schools with a 170 median, for instance. 170-171 would be better if you were at or slightly above median. 167-169 would be better if you are just below it.

GPA ranges are affective even as large as 3.71-3.79. You get more data points that way.

meadow201 wrote:how do I read the Accepted w/Worse and Rejected w/better boxes?
I would assume its

X% accepted with worse than both numbers

and

X% rejected with better than both numbers

Because medians are everything to USNWR. That creates a WALL OF DEATH. Only very special snowflakes and URMs get in on the wrong side of the wall of death.

Columbia:

If you dont have 172+ you better the gpa median

Minnesota:

http://minnesota.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1112/

If you dont have a 167+, you better have a 3.8

So 3.9 174 has a 28% chance @ H...?
It means that 28% of applicants on LSN with numbers below 3.9/174 were admitted.

A 3.9 174 has a better shot than 28% for sure.

Those two columns generate an index for each applicant based on the school's admission trends, and give you the percentage of rejected applicants who had an index better than yours and the percentage of accepted applicants who had an index worse than yours.

They're not too important, just interesting information. Focus on the % column.

This is probably a better search for a 3.9/174 applicant: http://myLSN.info/olngbl

Here is a better representation of 3.9/174

meadow201 wrote:Answer also whether 28% accepted w/ index below 3.9 174 means a 3.9 174 itself has a 28% chance (seems low).
No. the 28% include apps like 3.6/160 that have no shot. 174 3.9 is more like 75% shot.
Generally, except YS, both>median = acceptance? both below = auto reject? what about 1 over and 1 under? Not split but, e.g., for H, 3.85 is below median and 174 is above.
Below both medians generally means reject unless you are super special or a URM.

Also, does it matter how far below? H GPA median is 3.89; does that mean a 3.87 is a kiss of death?
Likewise for 172 (because of 173 median)?

just to add to this, the difference between a 3.71 and a 3.79 is the equivalent of less than 1 point on the LSAT, so don't be too concerned about making your range too big WRT gpa. something like 168-169/3.8-3.95 makes more sense at NYU than you might think

Or does it not work that way because 3.93->3.8 crosses YSH's medians?
this.
medians are really important, and what I said doesn't work as much at YHS as it does at other schools.

Wrong area. This is supposed to go in the "what are my chances?" section.
