I'm surprised at the people who think this would be enough to bar him forever from becoming a lawyer. He may have to sit out for several cycles to distance himself from it (if at all), but haven't we all heard of far worse scenarios?

There are so many practicing lawyers who had Dui's..and imo a DUI arrest is just as bad as one for a fight.

i seriously wouldn't lower the rankings list based off of this, because anecdotal evidence suggests that there's no correlation between accepting c+f students, and lower rankings. if anything a counterargument can be made as no one is more image conscious than a school hovering between 30 and 50 trying to avoid sliding from pretty good to an afterthought. it's not perfect, but think of it as a baseball team. you have a guy with character issues but all star #s - they always still sign with a big market team. some lower teams will reject you based off of your issues. some bigger ones will too. however, out of the top-14 one of them will probably either not think it's such a big deal or believe in you. you just have to give them enough other things to talk about. the selling point can't be good at bar fighting.

I hate to revive this nightmare thread, but would anyone care to take a glance at my C&F statement? This one includes everything except the newest issue (waiting for the final charge/outcome), and would obviously be edited for schools that only ask for convictions and not just any arrest. Please let me know if you'd like to take a glance, I'll PM it to you. Don't feel too great about just posting it here as I'm obviously not proud of it.

Just an update, had my final court date yesterday and it got bumped down to a noise violation. This seems a lot better on paper than disorderly conduct, no? So when I include it my CF report, do I need to say what it was amended FROM, or just say "I was arrested on xxxx and charged with a noise violation"

NOT LEGAL ADVICE OF COURSE
but maybe check whether the records reflect that it was a fight reduced to a noise violation or whether it's just filed as a noise violation without any additional information.
The bold holds true for me too, and I agree.....

Thanks for the replies. Its bit tough to discern the info from the court record, but it appears to say it was amended from something. I wasn't really giving much detail for my other incidents beyond the where, when, and what (the charge). Think elaborating on this most recent one might be useful to explain my actions? It's going to look bad either way, but I guess giving some context can't hurt.

I might go along these lines, I will let you know.

The title of this thread made me LOL hard. I am glad to see it got reduced to a noise violation. Do you think you can retake and get a score in the low to mid 170's? I am guessing without a retake your options aren't going to be great regardless of C&F issues.

Spin this into living in a shitty area where there's a lot of lawlessness disorder and chaos and how your goal is to make the area safe so that people shouldn't have to get into fights because of how bad the neighborhood is.
(if you can add in a troubled background/hardship addendum you're golden)

elaborating/explaining is going to look bad
not elaborating is going to look worse
not disclosing is worst

If you have to chase, you're already too late. Next time pay the EMS to ride in the back on the way to the scene

I don't doubt you might know what you're taking about. I just don't understand the need to be a condescending prick about it. If you really have something helpful (and that can be bad news too), you could just tell me. I know its the internet and it's easy to be a dick, but it's not like I'm the worst poster on TLS or something, I've tried to help people when I can on this forum. I'm not asking for someone to feel bad for me or to tell me everything is going to be perfectly fine. I made a stupid mistake, and I'm trying to figure out how to best deal with and understand how it's going to affect me attaining a career I'm genuinely interested in.

Anyways, thanks for the actual responses. I'm going to offer as much information as I can to give context, but I don't want to come across like I'm not trying to accept responsibility for what I did. I'm only paying for a handful of applications, but if I really under perform I'll have to see where I want to go from there. Now that the everything is wrapped up in court, I'm going to contact the bar association in the states I'd prefer to work in and see if anything disqualifies me outright from the bar.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
