Couple Conundrum

My partner and I are trying to go to law school together or in the same city but we have very different numbers. Same UG, same first majors, both several years out of UG with solid WE. What are our options?

Me: 167 / 3.69
Her: 158 / 3.48

So far:

D.C.: GULG/GW and American/George Mason
NYC: NYU/Fordham and ?
Chicago: Northwestern and Chicago-Kent

West Coast is not an option either due to family concerns and career goals.

May think about adding U Illinois or IU as midwest options - only hesitate because they are the only schools in the area.

I'd advise her to retake. You guys could both T1 if she got a 165+ but you're likely out of T14.

We have both retaken and improved. I think its obvious we won't go to the same school unless I dip pretty far down, so I'm asking more about other ideas on schools that are near one another like T20 and T50 options.

The best answer anyone would give you is that you both need to retake and then have a lot better selection of schools.

But because you dont want to hear that.....
GULC/GW

you may get GULC with ED, she may need a better score for GW though I don't know much about them

BU/BC Northeastern?

The schools she would get into would not be good value propositions. At the very least, she should retake. Think about the value proposition here. Two huge debtloads would be catastrophic if you both cannot find decent jobs.
But if you wont do that, Id gravitate toward Boston or NYC. Avoid DC due to awful job prospects for GW/American grads.

You should apply to UT-Austin and for her to apply to University of Houston/SMU/Baylor. Dallas/Waco/Houston are all fairly close to Austin.

In the sense that 3+ hours is close. I dont think thats what OP is going for.

I like UT but yeah, 3 hours wouldn't exactly do. Hence DC, NYC, Boston being the only real options I think that are out there.

Is employment for GW/American grads really that bad?

Me either in all likelihood that's the conundrum!

More American than GW. American has awful, awful prospects and charges insane amounts of money. But honestly, despite its ranking, GW is not good. Fordham and BC/BU are much better and similarly ranked.

DC is the toughest market to crack, may want to consider unc?

I've got an issue like this, except my SO is applying to PhD programs. But yeah NY, Boston, Raleigh-Durham... these are really the only places with acceptably well-ranked law schools and good schools for her too. That's what sucks about Texas and the Bay Area (our preferred destinations)--you only have one or two well-regarded schools that we would BOTH have to get into to make it work. That unfortunate truth makes NY or Boston so much more attractive/likely destinations for me than if I were single.

I would even shoot for UNC/Wake/Campbell... You could even throw in Richmond for her (although thats a couple hours). She might even be able to get into Wake off the waitlist.

You could do UT/Baylor....they're about an hour and twenty minutes apart though.

How about you go to Cornell and she doesn't go to law school?

I'm guessing that's out the window so retake.

But that's probably out the window too so I guess some sort of combination of North Carolina schools might be best given the constrictions you have put out there. But honestly I can't think of a worthwhile school she would get into with those numbers. Maybe there's a decent school in New York that she could sneak into the part time program and you could attend Fordham?
