On July 21, 2012 I was arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. I was given a Conditional Discharge and upon completion of a year probation the charge will be dismissed. I make no excuses for the events that occurred on that night and have learned a lesson. I value my future as a professional and I will never place myself in a compromising position such as this again. I am incredibly remorseful for my actions, and from this situation understand the severity of consequences that stem from smoking marijuana.

I am not sure the last 2 sentences are really necessary. They seem redundant.

Throw in a sentence about how you'll just smoke in your house and have your bag man deliver from now on and you should be good to go.

I would remove the last sentence.

The last three sentences just say "I learned my lesson" three times. Also, for some reason the "I'll never...again" seems a little insincere, like a child asking for forgiveness. Maybe there's a slightly different way to say it

OP should throw something in about budding into a more mature person.

I think everyone in academia knows what a joke marijuana prohibition is. I would remove the last sentence also.
