Top Law Schools

Should you write your name on tops of each document you submit to the law school ie personal statement, why x essays, etc or since it's all part of your file is that unnecessary

Include your name, LSAC ID, page number (if more than one), and the type of document (e.g. "Personal Statement") at the top of the page.

All of that? It doesnt say anything on the apps like that?

It takes two lines in the header. Probably no big deal if you don't, but I'd do it just in case they drop the folder or something.

Log into LSAC. It's the account number that starts with L and ends with 8 digits.

and more specifically than top of page, I put my name/lsac id and "title" of document in a header that was spaced with the name left justified, lsac # middle justified and "title" right justified for a clean look. I had page numbers for all documents whether they had 1 or more than 1 page in the footer with the total number as well (i.e. Page 1 of 1, or Page 1 of 2).

Is this only relevant for sending in parts of the application via physical mail? I guess I should go ahead and take a look at the electronic submission form.

Look, nobody is requiring you to do anything. You can do whatever you want and your app won't be rejected or even looked at negatively if you don't do this. It's just that it can't hurt but could help, particularly if files get shuffled in the admissions office. I also find personally that it demonstrates forethought and professionalism. But yes, ultimately it's not required or even suggested by the law schools so it's up to you.

I think it's way weirder that you wouldn't naturally label your documents.

You can choose to skip the 1 minute process of clicking "add header and footer" in Microsoft Word but you are jeopardizing your entire application.

Imagine an office clerk drowning in applications, and a few papers get placed with a different app. Clerk is too embarrassed to confess to it, so the admissions person just assumes you are a dumbass who can't follow instruction. Wish you would have taken that 1 minute to add your name to the top!
