Re: 3.84 to 3.76, how much damage has been done?
Well first of all, stop blaming your advisor and the department, because the grades are your fault, not theirs. Second of all, it's a pretty big drop, and yes it will hurt your chances. You're still competitive at most schools, though, so focus on the LSAT, get a great score, then check lawschoolnumbers.com to see where you stand. You'll need a high LSAT, and the drop also likely substantially decreased your chance at good scholarships from those schools.

Dude, are you serious? Never trust advisers! Always double check that info yourself.JohnV wrote:Sure, the grade is my fault... the reason I took the class in the first place is theirs. So my blame is well placed. It's shouldn't be too much to ask for advisors to know what classes you have credit for when the freshmen ask the question specifically, giving them all the required information needed to answer it with this specific concern in mind.Ozymandias wrote:Well first of all, stop blaming your advisor and the department, because the grades are your fault, not theirs.

None of this is relevant until you take LSAT.JohnV wrote:Heh, no, I know how people dislike the "what are my chances" type threads without an LSAT score. Also, to bitch, because everytime I check "what could have been" concerning my GPA it makes me sad .
I plan on taking the LSAT until I get a 175, not that that information really adds anything useful lol. I saw a guy here recently who took the LSAT 4 times and got a 174 (and admitted) on his second application, so that gives me some hope.
Chill out. Damn. Your professors didn't take your tests and they didn't write your papers. Regardless of what advice you were given, it's your fault

First off, with the bolded, (1) forget about what could have been. It isn't. (2)There is no guarantee you will achieve a 175, even with proper study it is an insanely high score.mr.hands wrote:None of this is relevant until you take LSAT.JohnV wrote:Heh, no, I know how people dislike the "what are my chances" type threads without an LSAT score. Second, if you can't accept the blame for the entire situation with your grade you will have trouble out of college and especially in law school where your grade is dependent as much on your study habits as it is on everyone else's performance. Did you get bad advice? Yes. Doesn't matter.

Re: 3.84 to 3.76, how much damage has been done?
Yes, and I am advising you to not rely on getting a 175, less than 1% of everyone who takes the test scores that high. Even people PT'ing in the 170s flounder on test day.JohnV wrote:I thought TLS was for advice on law school applications, not for a value-driven introspection of the details of one's story.
As for placing the blame, when you apply to school you will be writing essays, and in your case I would imagine a grade addendum. If in that addendum you blame anyone but yourself for what happened adcomms will look at it as a sign of immaturity and it will impact you in a negative way.
I thought I'd throw some free advice in as to how law school actually works so you can prepare yourself for a possible let down.

No one can tell you the answer until you have an actual LSAT score. Where's the flow chart when you need it.JohnV wrote: The question was what will it do to my chances

Quite a bit. You've gone from below the median to below the 25th at HYS, and even if your LSAT is phenomenal you'll be fighting an uphill battle at those schools. On the bright side, if you can score a 175+ you have a great chance at CCN.

You're fucked at Yale or Stanford unless you have a great soft (prestigious work experience, winning Rhodes/Marshall/Fulbright, publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals, etc).
You still have a shot at Harvard with a 175+.

Well, I mean I think a person can complain without actually having their life threatened. Besides, as you can see, it isn't an inconsequential couple of grades.Miracle wrote:You are crying about a B-, and a B? I understand it matters, but there are people dying-relax a bit!

Not to be mean, but I always had a problem understand people like you. Inconsequential or not they are still your grades. What does the fact that you earned a B-, have to do wit the fact that you already took that class. Totally irrelevant.
Nonetheless, there are a lot more important things to worry about than you receiving a B, and B-. When I hear people say this, I think to myself he/she needs to grow up, and I truly mean it.
