Top Law Schools

Would 3 letters of recommendation be excessive? My pre-law dean was awesome and was also a professor of mine, so I'll be asking him for a rec. I also have two other profs who I think could give me ballin' recs and who I think could both provide pretty unique perspectives.

Additionally, can I get more than one rec then send certain recs to certain schools on the LSAC site? And when can I start sending the form from LSAC to get recommendations from my professors?

When you create an application on the LSAC site, you'll then have the option of adding which ever letters you choose. I had two letters from profs and one from my WE. So I chose as follows:

Chicago - 2 academic
NU - 1 WE
Michigan- all 3

Also, each school has slightly different desires from LORs, so 3 will be fine for some and overkill for others. Just research first and it'll be fine. I'd go ahead and ask for all three LORs.

Great, thanks man. Also, what is the difference between a recommender and an evaluator?

From what I've collected, evaluations are almost useless and hardly any schools look at them. I think a select few might favor them though, such as Duquesne.

I sent three LORs to all schools I applied to. I sent a fourth to a few other schools.

Its ok to have 3 LORs. Evaluations may or may not be important. I think because a lot of schools don't specifically request them, applicants assume they aren't important, but I seriously doubt they're useless. They answer questions about your academic potential that your professor may or may not mention in an LOR. It wouldn't hurt to have your professors also fill out evaluations. I had all of my professors fill out evaluations along with LORs and used them for schools that had an LOR/eval limit that was higher than the number of LORs I had (for example, I had 2 LORs, so for schools that accepted 4 LORs/Evals, I gave them my 2 LORs and 2 evaluations). It probably helped me (definitely didn't hurt me) and it will probably only take your professor 5 minutes to fill out, so you might as well; there's nothing to lose.
