How much value do schools place on out of state applicants or applicants coming from far away? For example, would a school on the West Coast be more likely to accept someone applying who is from the East Coast versus a kid with similar scores but in state? Thanks

None.

Some state schools favor in-state residents. That's the only way geography plays into any of this.

It probably won't help you much if at all.

I was actually just looking up info on one law school. Its a public state school and they specifically said they give preference to state residents, but still solicit people from out of state. I suppose that has a lot to do with state funding because it is a public school. So being out of state could slightly hurt you if you are applying to state schools.
