I've been reading a lot of past threads that talk about applying earlier, the better, but how big of an impact would applying 6 weeks later have? Especially if one were to apply later, one would also have a few more points on the LSAT?

Halloween is still plenty early. Having the higher LSAT score would make a MUCH bigger difference than applying in September.
Really, you're not going to hurt yourself as long as everything is in by Thanksgiving. That's still decently early. (Although I'd still aim for early Nov.)

Unless you apply early decision, odds are they won't look at your application before December, possibly January

+1/+2 or more points on the LSAT > the difference between applying day 1 and day 45. Easily.
All else equal, applying day 1 > day 45.
I applied at around 8 AM on day 1 -- I have a job (and didn't want to seem neurotic) so I didn't want to stay up to submit at midnight. From my limited interactions with some members of adcoms, I'm convinced it helped marginally insofar as their familiarity with my file.
ETA: Conversations typically started with: "Hi, I'm JDizzle" "Oh hi, yes I remember reading your file; it was one of the first we received."
