Top Law Schools

Hello Everyone,

I am currently determining which professors I want to ask for LOR's. I am a transfer student, I began my college by going to a local community college (because of cost) and then transferring to at local UC. I spent a total of three years at my CC and will spend 2 at my UC. While at my CC, I took the same english professor every semester while I attended. This professor graduated (PhD) and taught at the same UC I am at now. I believe that this professor knows me the best and could attest to my overall skill set and leadership in an academic setting; however, my pre-law advisor pretty much cringed at the idea of me asking this professor for a LOR because (from what I felt) they taught at a CC rather than a 4-year institution. My two other LOR's will come from the college that I am at now.

What's everyones input on this? Thank you all ahead of time.

Get that professor if you believe he/she will honestly write you a great rec. Adcomms don't care who the person is (barring friends and family) as long as they have only positive things to say about you. In fact, they are more likely to frown at a letter if you only got the person to write it for the preftige (like a Senator or something).

If you will have a couple from your current institution I see nothing wrong with getting one from the CC professor. That's a lot of classes with one person; they should, as you say, know you very well and be able to provide insight as to your progress and abilities over time.

I totally agree! It's so stupid that he advised against it.

Get the letter from the professor that knows you. Run any advice that your pre-law advisor gives you by us first.

HAHA! For sure. I couldn't believe his attitude towards having a CC professor write a LOR for me. After my last interaction with him I probably won't go back. Love your name btw "Mr. Pancakes" hehe
