Top Law Schools

Yesterday I had an amazingly positive experience visiting a school- specifically through talking to current and past students. Having helped organize asw type things in the past and having attended a few (not all in law) which left me ambivalent or turned off, I really appreciated this and would like to send a thank you note- especially to recognize a few of the students that were really really helpful by name. Im still in negotiating stage with the school though so I'm wondering if this will come off as sucking up? Am I overthinking? Thanks!

You're negotiating with the school for more aid money? And you want to send current/past students thank you notes? I see no problem with this. If you're sending the school a thank you note to thank the students, less acceptable, but I've seen it happen. Admissions forwarded the thanks to whatever students were mentioned.

I don't see any problem with wanting to extend your appreciation to those who made it a pleasant experience, so long as giving thanks is your genuine motivation. Personally, I would try to thank the individuals directly in this situation, unless they actually stand to benefit somehow from being recognized by the Admissions office for their efforts. From a practical standpoint, I don't know many people who would be displeased with receiving a letter that thanks them for their work.

If they really made your experience great then why not let them know? I don't think it sounds brown nosey in the least.

It would only be brown-nosing if you expect those students to somehow put in a word for you to the financial aid office, or if you let the school know that you contacted those students to thank them. Brown-nosing usually has the negative connotation that you are only doing it to curry favor with someone, and acting with an ulterior motive. Just thanking someone for a good experience isn't with an eye toward getting a return favor.
