Is this due to fewer applicants in part due to the scandal breaking at the start of the last cycle in combination with the negative press about law school in general?

What gives?

If by "more diverse GPAs" you mean "shittier GPAs," then it is probably because they're having to scrape deeper to find people willing to attend. Applicant numbers are down across the board and there are a number of reasons to think it would impact UIUC more than most schools. The only people who know the exact thinking behind these admit decisions (and whether LSN is even representative) are the people in the admissions office at UIUC, but it's a safe bet that no reason for lowering standards so much can be a positive reason.

Honestly those GPAs look a lot like the ones that turned up in the spreadsheet uncovered during the Pless investigation. They just aren't lying about things anymore.

LSN doesn't really look much different now that I'm taking a closer look. They just haven't rejected anybody yet.
