If by "more diverse GPAs" you mean "shittier GPAs," then it is probably because they're having to scrape deeper to find people willing to attend. Applicant numbers are down across the board and there are a number of reasons to think it would impact UIUC more than most schools. The only people who know the exact thinking behind these admit decisions (and whether LSN is even representative) are the people in the admissions office at UIUC, but it's a safe bet that no reason for lowering standards so much can be a positive reason.

LSN doesn't really look much different now that I'm taking a closer look. They just haven't rejected anybody yet.
