To status check or not to status check?

I have received a few decisions already from my cycle and all of them have notified me through email (some saying to check the status now because they have rendered a decision and some actually just posting the decision in the email). Will it ever be that their decision is rendered and appears on the status checker before they send out the email? In other words, do I need to start obsessing over the checkers or should I just keep obsessing over my inbox?
Thanks TLS!

Depends on the school. The first indication of a decision could be a physical letter via snail mail, an email, a status checker change, or the ability to log in to an admitted students website.

Don't status check until end of march.

Status checking is addicting and stressful, but it does at least give you something to do while you anxiously wait for an email. I don't know what schools you're applying to, but if University of Iowa is one of them then I would recommend status checking. I've had an acceptance note on the Iowa status checker for over a week now, but haven't heard directly from the school yet. So yes, it can be helpful!

I can't help it. I am always logged into my email, constantly status checking. It's so annoying but kinda fun in weird way. Got in two schools already a T85 by email and a lower ranked via status checker then email later. Now I'm just staring out the window at my mailbox. I don't care; It's exciting! Good luck to everyone.

Congrats Lawyer101!
I am pretty addicted to my inbox, primarily because I have only heard the decisions through email rather than status checker thus far. But now, because of this feedback, I will probably become addicted to status checking too!

Addicted to inbox and status checking/mail checking. Download the status checker app for your phone. More fun times.

Just as a note, it's been mentioned by one or two (that I remember) admissions that they can see how often you update/check your status. I know one of them said that it didn't affect their decision, but they did note it in the files.
I don't know how many schools look at that, but I thought I'd let you know they can see (in case you didn't know). I'd suggest using the status checker app. I have it set on my computer to automatically check at set intervals (mine aren't that often, but I think you can do it every few minutes or hours) and email or text you if there are changes. Since the status checker app is pretty common now, you won't look obsessive to them if you check it consistently like that - they'll figure (I hope) it is the app (or that you are amazingly scheduled).

I have read in various places on TLS about this status checker app. I am sure it is linked to somewhere in a sticky, but I am not sure where exactly. Would it be possible to mooch a link from someone?
Thanks!

Yes that's the one. A TLS member actually programmed the app!
