should I put this on resume?

Post by swtlilsoni » Tue Jan 17, 2012 1:18 pm

I tutored for http://www.wyzant.com
It's this online site where you list yourself as a tutor and people in your area contact you. Would it look amateurish if I put this on my law school resume?
If I were to put it, should I put Wyzant as the employer or self employed?

You're applying to law school, not the CFO for a Fortune 500 company. There's an understanding that your experience is going to be less-than-formed and much of your employment history will be like this. If you want to put it down, put it down. If not, don't. You can make either format work or a hybird "Self-employed tutor through Wyzant"
-Identified students' developmental needs and created learning objectives and plans.
-Tutored in wide array of topics and mastery levels, including algebra, early Etruscan history, advanced basketweaving, and Javelin-throwing.

You're self employed, don't even put the word "wyzant" on your resume anywhere.

Put that you were a tutor on your resume, and if you want to get more specific you can say that you used "various online communities" to find students.

Okay but under work experience my format is like this:
Employer
Job title
Bullets with job description

So for something thats self employed what would i put in the employer line? I feel self employed sounds wrong is there something else i could write?

You're over-thinking this, really.
