What's the protocol for an applicant that is arrested for DUI after submitting all applications?

I already have a couple acceptances, and am waiting for a few schools to get back to me, but was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Friday. I'm going to fight it because I wasn't drunk, but what is to be expected of me at this point, as far as my app's are concerned?

Yeah that's really uncalled for. That being said, you definitely need to submit updates to any schools you're actually considering. I'm pretty sure you'll need to report any C&F issues to your school of choice from now until you graduate to avoid problems with a C&F hearing, but I could wrong about that.

Yeah, he's fucking mad and he has a right to be. This is a legitimate law application question on a site whose purpose is to discuss these kinds of issues. Instead of getting any kind of help, he gets a dozen responses (edit: and counting...) which are split between holier-than-thou bullshit/personal insults and mindless responses like meme photos and youtube links (as well as your stunning contribution to the thread).

Note how people chose to completely ignore that the OP said he wasn't drunk. This may or may not be true, but I'm not particularly invested in figuring out if someone on the internet is lying. So, assuming he is telling the truth, what did he do wrong? Even if he had some alcohol in his system, it is legal to drive after drinking alcohol if you are under the limit. So not only are you choosing not to believe him, but you are assuming things without any info (there is a huge difference between 0.04 and .12).

Seriously, grow the fuck up, TLS. Nobody thinks you are clever for posting memes. Nobody thinks you are moral for jumping all over someone. And Nobody gives a shit about your unoriginal snark. I can only hope that it is the anonymity of the internet that makes you all act like children. If not, then I'm with the OP: good luck surviving the adult world with such defective personalities.

OP: This is 100% something you have to tell people about. I would write up some kind of addendum and submit it to the schools you are still waiting on. Do not hype the part about how you think you should win your appeal or anything. Just say exactly what happened and make sure you express some contrition about it (I unless the cop was racially profiling you or something, there must have been some reason you got pulled over, even if not related to drinking). I don't know how this will affect you, but there isn't much you can do about it anyway.

For schools you got into I would call and ask. The main issue here is that this will have to come out during the C&F -- this isnt for a few years but you need to show the bar that you didn't hide it from your school. Will they rescind your acceptance? I have no idea, but I would generally think not. This should not prevent you from passing the C&F, which is what they care most about. Just call and tell them what happened and ask what procedure they want you to go through.

On a serious note, just say, "I was arrested for DUI on December x, 2011." No excuses, no explanation, just keep it simple.

Eeeeeehhhh maybe. If he's got a recorded BAL under the DUI limit, I might report that. Also, he wasn't arrested for DUI, he was arrested for suspicion of it, which might be different from state to state.

Am I the only one that wouldn't say shit? Dude didn't lie on his applications and if he goes to court with a bunch of people blowing .2's he might judge get a PBJ.

Sounds like he was at like a .07 and was swerving/speeding. The breathalyzer test isn't really that great so they probably took him in just to be safe.

Alright, I amend my response to listing the actual charge, suspicion of DUI, or whatever it was called.

You can still get a DUI while being under the limit if you show signs of impaired driving. Just saying.

Were you under the influence of anything at all? The way the law works...you can actually be arrested for a DUI without being over .08, if it's affecting your driving to a certain extent. Sucks that that's the way the law works and that cops can make arbitrary decisions, but lives are hopefully being saved by having these laws.

The way I see it...if you were completely clean (and maybe just a bad driver haha), then I don't really see how they can make a dewey stick and thus it may be wise for you to wait on disclosing this until you get some sort of resolution.

If you believe you're going to be convicted, I think you have to mention it, or else it could cause significant problems down the road (e.g. bar admission).

Ironically you might want to talk to a lawyer to see what your chances are before making a decision on this.
