How to get a particular trait noticed before auto-rejected?

My GPA is 3.3 and LSAT 172 (retaking in December), and I'm shooting for Columbia & NYU. I had to work full time during college, and I'm an URM. Is there any way to make sure that schools will notice this before auto-rejecting me?
I read that a diversity statement would help, but I already sent in my app for early decision. Would it be bad to email them my diversity statement as additional information?
Thanks!

Thanks :), but I know my GPA is really lower than 25th percentile, so a little nervous.

it's rather personal, but it has to do with extreme financial hardships, escaping political persecution etc

It is a little low but consider that a 172 is difficult to achieve in itself... and you have a +1 on that by being a URM.

good luck on your cycle

URM = African American, Mexican American, Native American, or Puerto Rican. If you are none of these, then you aren't considered a URM.

But that LSAT should be able to get you into some good schools either way! Good luck.

Why didn't you write a diversity statement originally?

I know it's a little stupid, but my personal statement touched on the subject, and I thought it would be enough. I have now reconsidered, and wanted to write a full fledged diversity statement. Should I?

If it's something you already talked about in your PS, you might annoy them by trying to add a new addendum that duplicates that info. Usually a DS is used to cover things they aren't mentioned in the PS, and some people integrate their diversity info into their PS. As long as you said enough to get the message across, they'll notice it.
