Is this a bad idea? I feel like i can say everything that i need to say in 2 pages. Will it hurt my application to submit a well writen 2 page narrative when they accept up to 3 pages?

NO. If you are comfortable, no need to force more information.

If it says up to 3 pages, yes. If it says 3 pages, or at least 3 pages, no. My adviser says 1 1/2 tops. They read a ton of personal statements, and they probably would appreciate you getting to the point quickly.

No. If it says "up to 3 pages" it means UP TO, but not necessarily, three pages. If they really wanted 3 pages, they would say, "no less than 3 pages".

What are we talking here, Berkeley? Berkeley... the PS actually matters. Otherwise, w/e.

Also, lol @ advisors.

Read it again. He asked if it were acceptable to turn in a 2 pg. Therefore, if it says up to 3, yes, it's okay to submit a ps shorter than 3. Please read the entire post before claiming my response is incorrect. Thanks in advance.

He actually says "is this a bad idea?", and you said "Yes." So that ends it.

He asked if he could submit a 2 page ps, and I said yes. I don't see why there is controversy. My answer was if up to 3 pages, yes, submit it. If it says 3, than no. I really can't understand why there is an issue with that answer.

Techincally he asked of it would hurt, or in other words if it was unacceptable, and you answerred yes, making it kind of hard to follow.
