When does law school become worth it?

I know a lot of times the bad economy moodiness combines with the TLS elitism and has people say things like "unless you go to HLS on a full scholarship, it's a horrible idea!" But realistically, where is the cutoff for you?

I know this has been discussed a lot, but I just like the idea of putting it in a poll.

It depends.

I know it depends on a lot of different factors, that's why I have the poll up. I want to get an answer from each person in their particular circumstance.

It's not really a line, its more of a situational thing. I think it is worth it for:

1) Sticker at the T6ish or so, maybe T14 if you have really good pre-law school WE (like investment banking or something that employers will dig at OCI)
2) At least half tuition at the T17
3) Huge scholarship at the T30ish or so
4) Free at your local TTT if it isn't a totally oversaturated market dominated by better schools

Also depends on what a person wants to do, any work experience they may have, etc. Such a hard questions. But I think it is "worth it" (whatever that means) if any of the above 4 are met.

I think that this poll could be better.
You split T14 into 3 groups and then lump #15 to #50 together...

George Washington U might be worth it, American U not as much.

I guess ill go with T1 with scholarship, although some T1 are worth it without scholarship $$

George Mason is only $20k for instate for example

I'd take out full loans for any T1.

Yeah. Both schools' employment stats seem to be pretty good. I think it would be worth it.

Nope. All you people are such elitists. Everyone at Emory and Wake is fine. Eminently worth the $200k. Nothing wrong with $80k midlaw. Lots of those jobs. I don't need to work for some NLJ250 BIGLAW firm.

Emory is definitely worth it considering the speed with which ATL is rebounding. Wake Forest I'd have to say is much more of a risk since everyone thought Charlotte BIGLAW was going to start paying $190k market but instead they lowered their starting salaries. The fact that that the $190k starting pay hasn't materialized tells me that you should stay the hell away from Wake Forest and NC in general.

Plus Emory has quite of geographic reach. Lots of people can get NYC and DC.

I don't know if one year of bouncing back is any sort of trajectory. I doubt they'll hire next year much stronger than this year based on the city's economic issues generally.

How do you guys feel about American? On one hand, it is technically a T1 and it is in a really big, strong legal market. But it also seems to be on the decline in the USNWR rankings.
