This years incoming class at CLS is 21% Asian.

EDIT: Couldn't find anything about Y. H and S only list percentages for "students of color." They are 37, 34 respectively.

Also, what's with the gender distribution at S? 106/180 incoming students are guys.

According to the last US News rankings, YHSC were 13%, 5%, 10% and 16% Asian, respectively.

They also list 7.5% as Pacific Islander which is way higher than the other three schools.

That's a little confusing...are the Philippines in Asia or are they are Pacific Island? Seems like they're both.

They're mad that Columbia was mentioned alongside YHS. It should be noted however that no one in this thread ever tried to claim that Columbia was a peer of YHS.

Asians are thrown into the "not URM" category. There's no boost or penalty (beyond favoritism shown to URM candidates) for being Asian.

Non pacific Islander Asians, like whites, are overrepresented in most law schools.

What evidence suggests there's no penalty?

I recently joined my school's admissions advisory committee and learned a little bit about it. According to our admissions dean, overrepresented applicants are a single pool of consideration. Apparently breaking down the overrepresented categories violates Gratz v. Bollinger as a type of quota or cap-- which are specifically prohibited. You cannot break down the entire student body into desirable racial percentages and then fill those slots with the best available members of the respective races. There's no "lets take the top 20 asian applicants we get to total 10% of the student body, but no more." Doesn't happen.

The way to view AA is that URM candidates can be given a boost to serve narrowly defined diversity interests, but there can be no anti-boost for non-URMs beyond the general effect having an AA program has.

Also, this dean used to be an assistant dean of some kind at HYS. S/he said it was the same there. White/Asian and other overrepresented racial categories are considered basically the same. This is purely testimonial, but I buy it. It isn't in any school's interest to discriminate against Asians.

Something you are faced with is that these detailed statistics are NOT available. You need complete breakdowns of Asian acceptance rates along with LSAT/GPA medians of Asians from each school. That is never going to happen.

There is no Asian penalty in LS. Indeed, the data until very recently showed Asians getting in with slightly lower numbers than whites.
