Why x Essays?

I have seen a lot of posts about writing the why insert school essays on here, but when looking at the applications Cornell was the only one I can recall having such an essay. I have not looked over them all again, but I specifically looked at UVA as lots of people have mentioned it and did not see that essay anywhere on the application. Is it just for ED? Or am I just somehow missing it?
