Fee Waiver Taboo?

Is it taboo to request a merit-based fee waiver after applying?

I am aware that some schools will refund application fees if they select you for a waiver after you have already applied, but I am wondering if it is bad form to ask for a waiver after submitting payment. Also, is a request from someone who has already applied less likely to be fulfilled, since their negotiating power is reduced?

I apologize if this was addressed in another post. I perused the waiver threads but did not see anything relevant.

I'm curious about something similiar, not to hijack the thread, but I applied at full price only to get my requested fee waiver a few days later. Any way to recoup my money?

To answer your follow-up inquiry, it depends on the school. Some schools will send you a refund check and others have a no-refunds policy.
