Why X Essays (Length, Necessity etc.)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to look at my post. Sorry in advance if these questions are posted elsewhere.
I'm working on a bunch of applications right now and had a couple questions about those "Why X" essays.
How long are they usually? I have heard that Duke, Virginia, Chicago, and Penn are the main schools that request them. Are there any other schools that look favorably on them? I appreciate any and all answers. Thanks!

IDK about Chicago, but definitely MVP, NU, and Duke.

A page is standard for "Why X" essays but you can go slightly over/under.

Did not write why UVA and why Duke and got in both. I think it's really helpful, if you have anything meaningful to say. But not a game breaker if you don't.

I completely agree with the above poster. I think some people over do it with the why essays. At the end of the day if you don't have something meaningful to say, it's just not worth it.
